Gianluca Gentili, guitarist, composer was born in Macerata, Italy.
He has composed instrumental music (Dialogues for piano, Bloom for electric bass, lighter and tape and Bloom # 2 for electric guitar and tape) and music for theatre (Baccanti, Un re in ascolto, Prometeo, O reche modo a madrigal for six actors, Rane).
In the summer 2003 he participated in the Macerata Opera Production El Cimarrón, a recital for four musicians by Hans Werner Henze and directed by Henning Brockhaus, recognized with a special prize at Premio Abbiati 2004 and eventually transmitted by RaiRadio3.
He collaborated with the poet Edoardo Sanguineti for the video and sound in the Magazzino Sanguineti exhibition at Palazzo Ducale in Genova, 2004 European Capital of Culture
He participated as a solist (electric bass and guitar) at the world premiere of Il Cielo sulla Terra by Stefano Scodanibbio at the Forum Neues Musiktheater Staatsoper in Stuttgart and then replicated in Mexico City in August 2008.
In January 2009 he won the first prize for original music at the International Short Films Contest in Rome.
He has also been involved in the production of over 20 CDs with some of the most important contemporary music record labels: Col Legno (Germany), Mode Records (USA), Wergo (Germany), New Albion Records (USA), Stradivarius (Italy), collaborating with, amongst the others, Stefano Scodanibbio, Arditti Quartet, Terry Riley, Edward Smith, Tonino Tesei, Fausto Bongelli, Lorenzo Bavaj, Fabrizio Ottaviucci and Enrico Belli.
In July 2009 he will participate in the “Prisma Forum” in Mexico City with In un giorno.
He regularly collaborates with Stefano Scodanibbio. He is the production director of the “Rassegna di Nuova Musica” (New Music Festival - Macerata, Italy).
